29-Day Giving Challenge

So, how are you? A simple enough question...Right?

As many of us know, life can really sweep us away. Hence, why I have been absent for a wee bit. Until last week that is.

Last week I had a reality check from a 'friend'. A friend for over 20 years that I have continued to have the shoulder to cry on and ear to listen with during some trying times of their life. I was surrounded by loved ones when the conversation took place and they immediately saw the concern in my expressions. They also noticed during the conversation that I never mentioned anything about myself...ie, not answering a simple question of 'how are you?' Being individuals that care for me they started asking innocent questions about the conversation and replied with...'that was a very one-sided conversation.' It was at that moment that it dawned on me that this one friend rarely if ever asks me...'how are you.' Not necessarily in my defense but I responded with...I'm not going to turn away someone that is in need of a good ear that listens or shoulder that absorbes their tears simply because they aren't concerned with my life. So, I realized that a very simple gift is to sincerely ask the question..."How are YOU?" and want to hear the answer.

This is an easy give for me on a daily basis. If I ask...I want to hear.

So, How are you, my gift giving friends?

funny, I was just pondering this question myself... If everyone could understand what a gift that question really is. How is your day going today?

I'm doing okay : )
How are you?

It does SEEM like a simple question, but there are many that don't take the time or even think to ask.

Another thing, some people are sincere when they ask it and some aren't. We're not always sincere in our answers either -- at least I know I'm not. Someone can ask "how are you?" and there's sort of an automatic response of "good" or "fine" even if things really aren't so good at the moment.
