29-Day Giving Challenge

My heart must not be in the right place. I've had the worst stuff happen to me since starting this 'mindful giving.' I'm also 'mindful' of all the bad crap that has happened to me. Fighting with my husband, problems at work, you name it. I'm sorry, but I try and try and apparently I am doing something wrong. I don't even feel like doing anything giving right now. I will see how I feel tomorrow but I really don't know....

Please take care and remember that we are here for you. You are not doing anything wrong Janice. We all would feel the same way as you do... How about a hug and smile! :o) Try to slow down, relax and I bet you will see that you have given. Do me a favor and give the gift of rest to yourself...xo

How about giving yourself a break? find a time, a day, an hour, an afternoon, and get away form everything and everyone familiar. Dress in something that makes you feel good (whatever that means to YOU!) and take yourself out to do whatever you want. See a film, go for tea or coffee or to a wine bar, go to the zoo or the park, a museum, a bookstore a hockey game -- whatever makes you smile, do it, just for you, by yourself. .. eat dessert first, climb a tree, drive somewhere (or take a train) have lunch and see a matinee . . . fill your well with kindness to yourself. Be gentle. Be happy. Choose joy!

Maybe you are expecting too much too soon? I know that giving without any expectations of something in return isn't easy, but I'll bet if you try to just give (and even small gives are good ones, y'know) without expecting anything in return, you'll soon be pleasantly surprised at the returns you WILL get.

In the book, all sorts of wonderful things started to happen to Cami as soon as she started mindful giving. It sounded like magic! I started the challenge and then started to wonder where the magic was. I think it is a real challenge to develop and maintain an attitude of gratefulness when you are starting from a difficult place. I do experience the joy that comes with giving at times and wish that I could have the feeling more often. I think I am getting in my own way, holding on to resentment and insecurities that keep me from appreciating all the good things that are in my life. I am going to keep trying, keep looking for the positive, focusing on the good and hope you do too. Don't give up!

Hi Janice,
The beautiful things in life always stand out more brightly against the difficult times. In Cami's book she challenged herself to give away the things she thought were hardest to give. Maybe for you, your challenge is to look for ways to turn your difficult times into an opportunity to offer forgiveness, your time and energy, and a gracious acceptance of these events. We watch and learn from each other every day- you have the chance to inspire everybody around you with how you respond to your situations. I'm sending many thoughts of abundance your way!

Dont blame yourself! Sometimes it seems everything and everyone is against us - in those times, I try to stay still until it ends, because it's just a cycle...What works for me is trying to find everyday 1 tiny thing I can be grateful for, in spite of all that does not work. I'm sure the best is to come.
