29-Day Giving Challenge

I don't think I have a choice but to participate!

Yesterday I entered the grocery store feeling very sorry for myself. In a hurry, with only 2 items to buy, I got in the long lines and stood trying to calculate how long each person in front of me would take. After several shoppers had completed their purchases and several minutes had passed, the person in front of me motioned for me to go in front of him. Being in a hurry, I took him up on it but felt guilty when I noticed that he didn't have that much more in his basket than I did in my hands. I just wanted to get out of there. At last I was the second person in line and the man in front of me, who was loading his groceries onto the conveyor belt, inadvertently left his eggs in the back of his cart. I called his attention to the eggs and, met with a warm "thanks!," noticed that I wasn't feeling quite so guilty. But then, as I was paying I noticed that the eggs I had earlier rescued were being placed in my bag and had been rung up as part of my order. I encouraged the young bagger to go after the man and told the cashier just to leave the eggs on my tab. I paid for the eggs and left quickly wishing the man a "Merry Christmas" as he rushed back led by the bagger, his wallet open in his hands. As I left the store, I heard the man's voice questioning, "She paid for my eggs??" and felt a spring in my step. In the car driving back to the office I consciously acknowledged feeling better leaving the store than I did coming in, despite the mob scene all around.

One hour later, I am back in the car and I hear Cami on NPR's On Point discussing 29 Gifts. WOW...I said, that just just happened to me! Talk about reinforcement!

So today I begin the next 28 days. I am looking forward to it!

We had a big CVS coupon a few weeks ago and did a mega Christmas stocking stuffer trip. We had a BUNCH of stuff and there was a guy behind us waiting with like a bag of candy. My husband said, "Here, give it to me" had the clerk scan it but then refused to take the guy's money. He said, "If it makes you feel better we'll be saving enough here so that WE won't even be paying for it." He was of course stunned but we finally convinced him to put his wallet away and leave :-)
