I was off work for 3 days this week with a terrible sore throat that turned into laryngitis. My husband was also home sick. On Friday, we were both feeling quite down and tired of laying around feeling miserable so in an attempt to cheer ourselves up we went out to lunch and then to Borders bookstore. I had made a pact with myself last summer that I was not going to buy anymore books until I read the many unread books I already have lining my bookshelves at home. But I still enjoy going to bookstores and seeing what's new and exciting. I love books!! That is something that I inherited from my Mom. Anyway, after a few hours in Borders I put all the books that I had been looking at back on the shelves and we started making our way out of the store. On the way out, Cami's book, 29 Gifts, caught my eye. I quickly browsed through it and then said to my husband. "I know I said I wasn't going to buy any books but I feel I really need this one because I think it will help me to help my students. (I recently had a student diagnosed with M.S.) Money has been very tight for us for some time now so I try very hard not to make impulse buys. I was feeling a bit guilty as I walked up to the counter to buy the book but I thought to myself, it's only $20 and I'm sure that I can scrimp somewhere else to make up for it. Besides, I thought, it's for a good cause and such a wonderful concept. I could see it positively impacting my life, and the lives of my friends, family and students. A small price to pay for that big an impact. I was sure I made the right decision when I got up to the counter and the clerk told me he had a 30% off coupon he could scan for me. Wow, I thought, I have already invited more abundance into my life!
As soon as we got home I started reading and was so moved by Cami's story! However, around 9pm, my throat was so sore and I was very tired from our outing so I decided to go to bed. Before turning off the light I got out another favorite book of mine called "You can Heal Your Life" by Louise Hay and I read the affirmations for Laryngitis and sore throat. I spent about 15 minutes repeating the affirmations and meditating hoping that I could finally rid myself of this sore throat by morning. I turned off the light and tried to sleep but couldn't for the life of me. After laying there in the dark for about 1/2 an hour I sat back up, picked up 29 Gifts and started reading where I'd left off. I got so engrossed, I couldn't put the book down! I read it all the way to the end. When I finished, I looked at the clock and it was 12:30am. It was then that I noticed that my sore throat was gone! With a smile on my face, I shut off the light and fell fast asleep. When I awoke this morning I felt so energized and alive! I couldn't wait to sign up on here and tell my story. The book has already begun to change my life! I was also excited to call my friends and tell them about the book. One of my friends ordered a copy for herself and my other friend ordered two copies, one for a friend and one for her sister who has M.S.
I am so excited to start my 29 days of giving today!
