29-Day Giving Challenge

So yesterday I spent some time with a friend of mine that is falling in love. She is nervous. She is excited. She is a school girl all over again. Everything is cute and adorable and every story is told in minute detail. I am so happy for her. She has had a tremendous journey of courage this past year and is due for some fun, some good lovin', and some silliness. The object of her affection is an old friend who lives far away whome she has just realized she has feelings for. He is coming this weekend and we will see what we will see. When I got back from San Fran, she wanted to fill me in, show me old pics and videos, ask advice, etc. She was simply lit up and radiant! I haven't seen her like this before. Even though I was tired and a little out of sorts, I decided that I would be just as happy for her as if it was happening to me! I asked all of the silly, funny, embarrasing questions I have wanted to talk about during the budding of any of my own new romances. I commented on the little features of her sweetheart, and helped her make plans for his arrival this weekend. She has always been there for me, and it was a gift to both she and myself that I decided to celebrate this with her.

What I got: I got to be the kind of friend that I would like to think that I am.

Thanks... you're right! I think that is actaully a good place to check in with ourselves to see where the giving is coming from. I have to confess that when I first startedt he challenge, my control freak nature did end up giving out a sense of obligation, stress at "not having given my gift yet,", etc. It became another to do list. That is NOT the place to give from. It doesn't feel good. When giving comes from a sense of honor, awe, kindness, and real love, it FEELS good:)

what a wonderful gift...it's great when the gift means as much to you as the person receiving it...

Dear Deb,
Thank you! It is a learning process for me as I have pretty well isolated myself my whole life. I am slowly building a community around me (albeit small) of wonderful souls (including you!). Thank you for your support!
