Yesterday as I was dropping my son off at school, a teenaged girl parked by the side of the drop off lane, suddenly began backing right into my car (my old 10 year old Subaru/her 2010 Mercedes)(this was gonna hurt her more than it was gonna hurt me)But Still, she was backing right into the driver's seat and my old car doesn't have side airbags - yikes!! I honked and honked again and she finally halted her merciless onslaught. She flicked her hair and her eyes at me and zoomed away. Way to get the adrenalin going first thing in the AM! I guess I can't really count honking my horn to warn her a gift. No wait, I can do better than that...so that morning I went to a meeting of the Radio Academy parents, for which the head teacher was late. I was able to finally meet some of the moms of kids in the program, after lamenting that I didn't know anyone at my kid's new school yet. Once the meeting got underway, I volunteered to take on the job of Recording Secretary - It always seems to be the job I gravitate to and it encompasses a lot which will take a load off the teacher. I also volunteered to wrap packages for tips at the local B and N to raise money for the Academy.
A friend who had planned to host a Hanukkah party tonight (Saturday), called yesterday to say she had fallen the night before and twisted her ankle, putting the party plans on hold. She lives about 1/2 hour away from me, but I immediately volunteered to take her to the doctor, pick up her son from school or both. While she graciously declined both offers, she said that it made her feel wonderful to know that someone would be willing to do that for her (her husband works 80 hour weeks), even though our kids are at different schools now. I didn't do the hard labor (prolonged driving) but I guess it still felt like a gift to her...I'm glad!
