The gift of smiles

Tonight, I have the pleasure of receiving the most wonderful smile from an old friend- the parking lot attendant from my local gym. Although our greetings always never got to more than hello or hi and goodbye- it was good to see you, there is just something special about him. He is one of those persons that when you come across in your life, you are just grateful. I don't even know his name but he never fails to brighten up my day (or night) everytime I see him. His face would literally light up whenever he sees me and he would always say "hello sweetie!! how are you?? It is always so good to see you..." in that lilting Jamaican accent. Last year I gave him a bag of Lindt chocolates as appreciation for a whole year of giving me his precious smile everytime I leave my gym, thereby making those workouts bearable. Tonight was extra special. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, his eyes widened when he saw me and a big grin spread across his face, pointed a finger in my face and said in a big voice "Do you know how much I love you??" and I just knew that he meant every word. I left that parking lot with warmth in my heart, from a strangers smile. No, scratch that, a friend's smile.

What a great way to finish the day.
