TiaSparkle's 29 Days of Giving - Day 1
I couldn't decide what to pick for my first day. My twitter friends Jeannette, Emiko, Susan, Nikki and I started the 29 days gift project today. I signed up a year ago and did one day on August 12th 2008 and then never came back. Today, I'm making a commitment to give for 29 days.
My first gift is something I have thought about doing for YEARS. Over 15+ years as a matter of fact. I don't know why I haven't so far but today, I sponsored a 5 year old child from Zimbabwe for $40 a month. His name is Menelisi and he is a Hope Child (ie, high risk in an AIDS area). I did a search for kids born on my birth date and just 4 kids showed up.
As soon as I saw him, I burst into tears and knew he was the one.
I'm in tears even now. I don't really know why except that I wish I had done it 15 years ago. His details, a photograph and letter will be here in 2 weeks! How exciting!! I'll put it up on my fridge :)
