29-Day Giving Challenge

I went shopping yesterday for craft supplies and overheard another customer asking the shop assistant whether they sell personalised candles. The shop assistant told her that they don't but she would give her the name of somebody that did. When the lady asked how much this person charged, I nearly fell over backwards at the price and I could see that the customer could obviously not afford such a price. She thanked the assistant for the number and left the store. I sent my daughter after her and told her to ask the lady to wait for me. I know how to do the candles and trust me, it doesn't take longer than 5 minutes!
When I came outside I asked the lady how many candles she wanted and what she wanted them for. Turns out she is only looking for one candle with her baby's name and the date of his christening on it. I asked where she lived and she lives less than three km from me ( are you surprised?). I said that if she bought the candle she wanted, I would put the name and date on for her and that I would most definately not charge her for 5 minutes of my time! At first she thought I was having her on, but when she realised I was serious, she couldn't stop thanking me. We exchanged phone numbers and she said that she would buy the candle when she gets paid and phone me.
It felt great being able to do something for a complete stranger.

each of us have our own special abilities and gifts. what an amazing turn of events, that you would be there at precisely that moment and be able to help the young mother out. when she looks at the candle she will be reminded of your gift and it will give her a more hopeful and positive outlook. good going! Hugs, Dawn

This is a wonderful story. It must have been synchronicity. How great that you have a gift you can share.

Wonderful! Spontaneous giving is so much fun.
I see what you mean about her not believing your offer at first ... sadly, people are not used to such nice gestures...but the good side is that this often makes them so appreciative when they do receive them.

I love this give, you are really helping the lady. It was great that you could step in and give so spontaneous.
