VJG 02/08/12 Voucher for a Free Mammogram!

Recently a voucher for free mammogram arrived in my mailbox. Since I just had my mammogram, I sent the voucher on its way back to the sender so another person in need can take advantage of this terrific offer.
I pray it finds it's way to just the right person who God thinks needs the benefit of this important test. We have to look out for each other, don't we ladies?

Comment by Valerie (wwt) on February 8, 2012 at 1:28pm Thanks Linda. I have a cousin that also had a double mastectomy. It runs in her father's side of the family so she too decided to take this seemingly drastic measure to hopefully protect herself from problems later on; that's the hope anyway. She was able to make a matter of fact decision about it and her husband is very supportive of her.
That was a thoughtful thing to do....especially now with the varying theories and insurance company's different rules about how often they will pay for a woman to have one. Oddly, that's the one thing in my life that I've been consistent about keeping up on throughout my life, but I'm always very grateful that we do have insurance to defray the cost of having one yearly.
Several years ago, a bit younger friend of my found out she had very early breast cancer; I call her "my brave warrior" b/c she opted to have a complete double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery rather than a less radical approach. She has four sons, now from a senior in high to school to their mid-twenties, but she said, "I don't have time for this s$it", meaning chemo and radiation and all that. She ordered size "perky" for her new breasts; although she did have much more a struggle to recover from all of that than I think she expected, she is fine with her decision and her life goes on. She's a bit quirky about some stuff and is now convinced she got the cancer from all the additives in the normal American diet and is currently juicing almost every organic thing she can find to eat, but that's a whole other topic!!!
Although she used to be a bit supporter, at the moment, that same friend is all mad at the Susan B. Komen Foundation b/c of it's tiff with supporting Planned Parenthood to offer woman mammography. I can't keep up with all the political stuff that she does, but if you're interested in knowing more about the problem, here's a good article about it:

Anyway, I'm glad you choose to do what you can to take good care of yourself and I hope your voucher does end up in the hands of someone who might not be able to do so.....
XOXO
