29-Day Giving Challenge

Hello Wonderful Givers -

With school underway or about to get underway across the U.S., I checked out the fabulous www.DonorsChoose.org website to look for a local classroom project request for supplies. I see many, many teacher requests for classroom supplies still unfunded. I just donated to a project to provide Weekly Readers to a 1st grade classroom in a high-poverty area of AZ. Do you remember the Weekly Readers?? I loved reading them when I was a child. If you enjoyed them too and feel moved to contribute, I'd love to have you help fully fund this project request. Every dollar helps :-) Thanks!

Here is a short excerpt from the teacher, Mrs R, who wants to bring the gift of reading to her children:

My first grade class is learning to read for the first time this school year and developing a taste and love for many genres. Help me provide vivid nonfiction Weekly Readers that will capture students' curiosity in science and social studies. Moreover, providing students with their very own Weekly Reader enables students to take home their own articles to place on their home book shelf and share with their family. During these hard economic times, many of my students are not able to buy books other than materials I can provide. Weekly Readers will supply extra practice and motivation to read. Also, our class consistently seeks out new materials to keep reading center time challenging and fun. Last, as a tradition in my classroom, I reinforce the idea that reading is a gift worth sharing. Therefore, every time there is a student's birthday, we have a special birthday story read aloud chosen especially by the birthday student followed by the traditional song and jazzy fun fair!

If you are looking for a gift to give today, this little gem might just resonate with you ;-)

Many thanks to you!

Blessings & Hugs,

Wendy
