I had a chemo treatment last Monday. The first week after can be rough on the body, and it has been for me. So yesterdy (Sunday) I decided to go on a little gifting spree and see if I could spread some smiles to others. It turned out to be good day of giving for me, and while I am still feeling the effects of the chemo my spirits are high.
Here are some of the gifts I gave:
1. Put money in the tip jar at Starbucks even though I didn't buy a drink.
2. Gave $1 ea to two little boys that were helping their grandfather sell juice and citrus at the Sunday market.
3. Left 8 of my favorite spiritual/self help books in the bookshelf at Starbucks for others to take.
4. Included a crocheted bookmark (that I LOVE) that I made with one of the books with a note to the new owner.
5. Gave 4 Smiley pins to people I met throughout the day
6. Gave away a $25 gift certificate to local restaurant on my community's web site.
7. Spent time purchasing items for the Christmas give on
Operation Smiley Face.
I received:
1. A sweet compliment from an elderly gentleman while I was shopping for the Holidy Mail project.
2. I dropped something and nice man came out of nowhere (seemingly) and picked it up for me.
3. A neighbor helped me carry a very heavy bag to my door. I really appreciated that!
4. Thanks and big smiles from the people that received the Smiley pins.
5. An unexpected 20% discount on a purchase I made.
6. Free design work from an amazing artist/graphic designer that I know.
7. Compassion - I was feeling unwell and stepped out of the store to purchase a lemon drink to ease my stomach. I didn't realize that I had store items in my hand when I did it! When I went back in the store I apologized to the "doorkeeper". He was so nice about it and just said "Oh don't worry about it,.I knew you were coming back." I thought that was really nice.
What a day! I am still feeling good about it a day later. :)
