Hello Moon! There are a bunch of websites that offer self-publishing. If you do a google search of 'print on demand' or 'self-publishing', you will see them. I did my research and chose to go with www.Lulu.com . Their website and book creation wizards are easy to use and the book quality is fabulous. The downside to Lulu is that the only form of support they offer is online email submissions of your issue, then it takes months for them to get back to you. I have found that frustrating! I think they have grown faster than they can keep up.
With Lulu, you just upload you files (they accept many formats), create a book cover, set your price and publish. You own the copyright to your work. It is all pretty straight-forward.
Now, about making profits. Some times you can make a profit on each book and some times you can't. It depends on where you are selling it and if you can set your price right. For instance, my book is about the healing power of art and it is printed in full color because I included over 30 of my paintings in the book. Printing a color book is much more expensive to make so I have a hard time pricing it well. Whichever website you use to publish your book, they will make a profit on every book. If you want to sell it at local, independent bookstores on consignment, they typically take around 40% of the sale price. That makes it very difficult to make a profit because if you raise the price to cover that 40% , then you may be priced too high and no one will buy it. If you are writing a standard book with no color, it might be easier to make profits.
Feel free to ask other questions. I'm happy to share my experiences with this.
May the sun shine upon you and may you be showered with the blessings of knowing you are loved. As you've said, this is an opportunity for change. i hope that 29Gifts helps bring what you desire.
Thanks for the reminder. I love nature, but since we moved to a town last month I have not taken the time to find a place to commune, I will make that a priority now. I love the poem and the picture.
